In the Sunday readings this week we hear a lot about God’s call. In the first reading we hear the story of Samuel and how he heard the Lord and thought it was Eli calling him and with Eli’s help he was able to fully tune in and respond “Speak Lord your servant is listening.” Then in the gospel we hear the story of Jesus calling the first disciples.
So the message is clear God is calling us, but are we tuned in? There are so many things that are trying to get our attention so it is important we do all we can to truly Tune In to what God is trying to tell us. We do this through prayer, Mass, reading scripture, participating in the Sacraments, and spending time with others who are trying to tune in.
It is not only important to tune in, but we also must respond like Samuel and say Speak Lord you servant is listening.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
on your own intelligence do not rely;
In all your ways be mindful of him,
and he will make straight your paths.
ADVENT WEEK ONE: HOPE
Well here we are. Advent has begun. This is a good time to reflect on the fact that we need to rely on Jesus and His righteousness. To often we can get so caught up in thinking we got things under control and it can turn into self reliance.
As we prepare to celebrate the coming of Jesus at Christmas let us not forget it is Him that we need to rely on. Our HOPE is in Him!
A year and a half ago I made a decision to step away from social media. I recognized it was poisoning my life. Everything I read, and even some things I posted were just not edifying to me or others so I took a sabbatical from it all. No Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or any other source of Social Media. Now I have recently gotten back on the social media train, but I do not get involved in every debate / argumentative post I see. I read and refrain from letting it consume me. When I do post I want my post to me positive, fun, informative, and most of all I want to Glorify God. “So whether you eat, drink, or whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.” 1 Cor. 10:31
